Adult Classes


American Stage Education offers classes for adults of all experience levels looking to explore their creativity and expand their theatrical knowledge.  Classes are available to students throughout the year.

Classes for Spring 2012

Adult Acting II
Take the next step in becoming an actor!  This class builds upon the skills learned in Adult Acting I. Through scene work and in-class exercises, students will have an opportunity to take what they've learned in Adult Acting I and delve deeper into the actor’s process. Students will explore what it really means to be in the moment, further script analysis skills, and work to create three dimensional, spontaneous characters.  The course culminates in a performance of scenes for invited guests.
Prerequisite:  Adult Acting I

Spring  – Mondays, January 23 - March 26, 6pm-8pm

Improvisation
Learn the art of long-form comedic improvisation! Taught in the style of groups like Second City, Upright Citizens Brigade, and ImprovOlympic, this ten week course will teach you how to build funny scenes, and how to put those scenes into a theatrical form. Come play with us, and find your inner comedian!

Spring – Saturdays, January 21-March 24, 10am – 12pm at American Stage

Playwriting
Write your own 10-minute play! In this course, you will learn how to tell a story that is theatrical and produce-able as well as such playwriting craft elements as structure, plot, dialogue, setting, theme, scene development, and format. Taught by Producing Artistic Director and playwright, Todd Olson, this class will take your ideas from the page to the stage.  All 10-minute plays will receive a staged reading by professional actors as one of our Hot of the Press events.

Spring – Thursdays, January 19 – March 22 (no class on February 2), 2pm-4pm at American Stage
Instructor – Todd Olson
Tuition - $225

Classes subject to change and/or cancellation if fewer than 6 students enroll.  Should this occur, your tuition will be fully refunded.
